Geometrids (Geometridae)
Species
The Geometridae is a varied group, but most species have broad, rather triangular wings, and rather light, slender bodies, enabling low-energy flight rather than power and speed. Geometrids can be distinguished from butterflies by their antennae, which are sometimes feathery in males, but are never clubbed. There are five sub-families:
  • Sterrhinae - Mochas and Waves (38 species)
  • Larentiinae - Carpets, Pugs and allies (164 spp)
  • Archiearinae - Orange underwings (2 spp)
  • Ennominae - Thorns, Beauties, Umbers and allies (91 spp)
  • Geometrinae - Emeralds (12 spp)
