Description

Family: Geometridae

Wing span: 28 - 32mm

This species is similar to the Common White Wave, but the cross-lines are brown, curved and often rather indistinct. The upper surfaces have brownish-grey freckling.

It is found throughout the British Isles.

Habitats are woodland and carr, often on very wet sites.

There are two generations in England, Wales and Ireland. In Scotland it is recorded continuously from May to September. It over-winters as a pupa.

Larvae feed on Goat Willow, Grey Willow and other sallows, Aspen and other poplars.

It is easily disturbed from vegetation during the day. It comes to light.
