Description

Wing span: 20 - 24mm

The Common Pug has a somewhat narrow forewing, with curved leading edge and a rather rough, grainy appearance.It has a subtle pattern of grey and warm tawny or reddish brown, darker along the leading edge. The cross lines are very variable in strength.

It is found throughout the British Isles.

It is found in many habitats, including urban and rural gardens, hedgerows, and most open, scrubby areas.

There is one generation per year, from May to July. The pupa is the over-wintering stage.

Larvae feed on the leaves of various trees, also Bramble and the flowers and leaves of various low-growing plants.

Comes to light, sometimes in fair numbers.
