Warblers are mainly small, highly active birds with thin, insect-eating bills. They forage amongst vegetation in woods, scrub, marshland and parks and gardens. Mostly they are drably coloured in shades of brown, buff, green and grey. The sexes are generally similar. Many European species are highly migratory.
There are about 300 species worldwide. Thirty-six species breed in Europe, and several more are regular or irregular visitors. Species seen but not photographed:
