Description

Wingspan: 60 - 66mm; Length 40 - 50mm

A large, heavy damselfly that looks more 'anisopteran' in build and posture. Males are all-blue, and females are whitish-yellow or pale blue. Both sexes usually have dark wingtips, although there is considerable variation.

It is found mainly in Greece, Turkey, southern Bulgaria and probably Albania.

It prefers rocky, running waters, with the highest densities along streams.

Adults are on the wing between April and mid-August in Turkey.

Adults of both sexes are often seen perched on twigs or stones above or near water, showing little interaction. Flights are usually short and fast.
