Description

Family: Satyrinae

Wing span: 30 - 40mm

This species has sooty-brown upper surfaces with a broad orange post-discal band on both wings. The forewing has two white-pupilled eye spots. The sexes are similar.

It is endemic to SE Europe, and is restricted to mountains in Bulgaria and neighboring countries.

It can be found in alpine fields, open grassy mountain slopes and ridge crests between 1500 and 2900m.

There is one brood per year in July/August.

Larvae feed on grasses.
