Description

Family: Polyommatinae

Wing span: 26-34mm

The male upperside is bright blue, with sooty brown borders. The female is sooty brown with a faint blue flush at the base. The hindwing has a greenish-blue flush at the base.

It is widespread and common through much of Europe, but missing from the British Isles.

It is found in dry to damp meadows and grasslands, roadsides, forest margins and clearings, and rocky slopes up to 1500m.

There is one brood per year, from April to July.

Many species of legume are used as larval foodplants.
